Code of conduct

House rules.

A room only works if everyone in it feels safe to speak. These rules apply to every unconf. gathering, our community spaces, and everything in between.

01 — Do

  • Assume good intent. Everyone is here to think out loud. Be generous with half-formed ideas — including your own.
  • Make room. Share the floor. If you’ve spoken a lot, invite someone who hasn’t.
  • Ask before you capture. Get a clear yes before photographing, recording or screenshotting anyone.
  • Keep it in the room. Share ideas freely, but don’t attribute what someone said without their permission.

02 — Don’t

  • No harassment. No insults, intimidation, unwelcome attention, or discrimination of any kind.
  • No pitching. Conversations, not sales. Don’t use the room to sell, recruit or collect contacts unasked.
  • No recording without consent. No photos, video, audio or screen recordings of people who haven’t agreed — and never of those who’ve opted out.
  • No sharing private details. Don’t pass on anyone’s name, face, contact details or words outside the room without their consent.

03 — Photos & recording

Consent comes first. When you join, you choose whether you’re okay appearing in photos, video, audio or screen recordings. You can change your answer on your private page at any time.

  • Ask before taking a photo, screenshot or recording, even if someone has opted in.
  • Never capture anyone who has opted out or says no in the moment. Screenshots of video calls count.
  • If organisers record a session, we’ll say so clearly beforehand and only include people who agreed.
  • Don’t post or share images, clips or quotes of others without their permission.
  • If you appear in something you didn’t agree to, tell us and we’ll take it down.

04 — If something’s wrong

Tell a host in the room, or email hello@unconf.org. We’ll listen, keep it confidential, and act.

Depending on what happened, that can mean a conversation, a warning, removal from the event, or removal from the community, including invites the person has handed out.

05 — Agreement

Everyone agrees to these rules when they join or request an invite. Last updated 27 October 2026. See also our privacy policy.
